Port's Final Chance
Wednesday 3rd August, 2005

Port Kembla's First Grade title hopes are hanging by a thread going into the final round of home and away matches this weekend. The Blacks sit two points behind equal fourth placed contenders Dapto and Corrimal.

By Sunday morning, Port will know whether they have any chance of returning to the finals. If Corrimal overcome Helensburgh (the team they lost to last week to open the door for Port and Dapto), all will be academic for Port Kembla as they will be unable to grab a share of fourth spot.

The heat will be on both Dapto and Port Kembla on Sunday if Corrimal lose however. Port will be chasing a share of fourth, while Dapto will be chasing outright fourth place. If Port could do the unthinkable and defeat Dapto by at least 33 points (and Corrimal lose to Helensburgh), The Blacks will sit back and watch Corrimal and Helensburgh in a playoff on Tuesday night for the right to meet Port on Thursday, the winner of the Thursday night playoff meeting Thirroul in the Sunday minor semi final. A win against Dapto by less than 33 points (after a Corrimal loss) would see Dapto benefit by watching Port and Corrimal slog it out on Tuesday night.

It's all speculation and "what if", but it makes for an intriguing final round of local football.

Wests are the only club in 2005 to have all three grades (Firsts, Reserves and Under 18's) participating in the Finals series - CONGRATULATIONS!)
