Simon outpoints 8

Simon kicks one of his 10 goals against Helensburgh in round 1, 2004Mark Simon's monsterous haul against Helensburgh has elevated him 8 places in the list of Black's modern day point scorers. Prior to round one, Simon sat in 16th place on 142 points. After scoring four tries and kicking ten goals for a personal haul of 36 points, Simon sits on 178 points and in eighth position on the list of modern day point scorers since 1982 (the inception of the Illawarra Steelers).

In doing so Simon passed the likes of current NSW Country centre Fuad Suljkanovic (158) and Blacks returned winger Jason Sullivan (168).

Simon averages just short of 10 points per game for The Blacks and is an odds on favourite to improve his ranking in the game against University this weekend at University Oval. Terry Jack sits just ahead of Simon with 182 points, following Tony Fittler (6th - 187) and 195 gamer Darren Nowicki (5th - 188).

Ironically, Simon sits 36 points behind 4th ranked Tony Marinesi (214 points). Current Blacks player Victor Daly heads the list of point scorers on 573 points (from 240 games).
