BLACKS END OF YEAR AWARDS

Port Kembla Coaching Co-ordinator Chris Walsh and First Grade five-eighth Jeff Hardy have taken out the major awards at The Blacks annual Presentation and Awards Nite held at Port Kembla Leagues Club last night.

Chris Walsh was given the nod as Clubman on the Year, receiving the Bob Fisher Trophy for his faultless work with Port Kembla in 2003. Walsh returned to the club after having coached the Berkeley Under 18's team to a 2002 Grand Final victory. In his role as coaching co-ordinator, Walsh was at every training session and every game, and also attended every function held by the club, offering his support and helping hand whenever required. His tireless work didn't go unnoticed, and he was named a worthy Clubman for 2003.

Jeff Hardy took out the Noel Mulligan Memorial Trophy for First Grade Player's Player. The trophy, sponsored by LJ Hooker Warrawong, is awarded to the player who amasses the most points as voted by his peers after each competition game. Hardy won the award in a closely contested poll, a single point ahead of captain Andrew Bobbin and newly appointed captain-coach, Craig Simon. The award is a fitting end to the playing career of a player who has given so much to rugby league at so many levels. Hardy is one of the reasons for Port's survival in 2001, and the Club's successes over the last two seasons.

Richard Velthuis and Victor Daly were named Bert Knuckleport Living Legends for 2003, courtesy of their comebacks during the regular season. Both players, well into their late 30's, just can't hang up the boots, and gave it one more season to pull on the Black and White jersey (or is it their last....).
